Elizabeth Smeed was the fifth child of William Smeed & Elizabeth Wood born 1845 at Isabella St, Lambeth & christened November 16th, 1845 at Lambeth St Mary, London.
Elizabeth & her parents were living at Isabella St. in 1851 & Elizabeth had 2 brother & a sister.
Elizabeth’s mother died in 1859 & in 1861 she was living with her widowed father at Isabella St & described as a domestic servant.
Elizabeth could not be found in the 1871 census & her father died in February of that year.
Elizabeth married Alfred Benjamin Langston on July 27th, 1873 at St Mary’s Lambeth. Alfred was born October 1st, 1844 in Rotherhythe, Surrey, & christened April 8th, 1855 at Christ church, Stepney, the son of Elizabeth & Benjamin Langston, an ivory turner. At the time of the wedding they were both living at Isabella St & a witness at the wedding was Elizabth’s brother, John Smeed.
In 1881 Elizabeth & Alfred were living at 6 Union Terrace, Trinity Newington, Lambeth & Alfred was a brass finisher. They had a son Alfred aged 1.
Alfred & Elizabeth were living at Meadow Row, Trinity Newington in 1891 & Alfred was now a foreman at the lamp works. Son Alfred was still at home.
By 1901 they were living at 84 Ash St, St Mary Newington & Alfred was still foreman at the lamp works. Son Alfred was now a commercial clerk.
Son Alfred married Agnes Cullum on September 1st, 1906 at Newington.
Alfred & Elizabeth were living at 93 Sayer St, St Mary Newington in 1911 & Alfred was described as a warehouseman, lamp & gas fittings. It was noted on the census that they had only one child who was still living.
Alfred died in April-June 1922, his death being registered in Greenwich.
There is a death for Elizabeth Langston in Oct-December 1931 in Epsom, Surrey.
