Jane Speed was the third child of Robert Speed & Isabella Harrison born at Chartershaugh & christened June 1st, 1823 at Chester-le-Street.
Jane’s mother died just 5 years after her birth & her father remarried in 1830.
Jane was working as a servant for Joseph Marley Spencer, a grocer, & family at Claypath, Durham at the time of the 1841 census.
Jane married Michael Walker, a coal miner, on May 1st, 1847 in Gateshead, Co Durham.
Jane died aged 27 at Sherburn Hill, Co Durham soon after the birth of daughter Isabella Jane & was buried December 5th, 1850 at Shadforth, Co Durham. Baby Isabella lived for 4 weeks & was buried on January 1st, 1851 at Shadforth. Michael was born c1823 at Washington, Co Durham, the son of Jane & John Walker, a coal miner/publican.

In 1851 widowed Michael was living with his parents at Sherburn Hill & he was working as a coal miner.
