Mary Ann Stone was the third child of William Stone & Ann christened February 16th, 1823 at Tipton, Staffs.
Mary married Richard Price in July-September 1848 at All Saints, West Bromwich. Richard was born c1826 at Manchester, Lancashire.
In 1851 Mary & Richard were living at Guns Lane, West Bromwich & Richard was an iron puddler. Living close by was Mary’s brother Joseph & his family & her brother Benjamin & his family.
Mary & Richard had moved to New Knutton, Silverdale, Staffs by 1861 & Richard was now a forge manager. With them at the time of the census was Mary’s niece, Jane Tufft (17), daughter of Mary’s sister Miranda & William Tufft.
In 1871 Mary & Richard were living at School Ground, Knutton & Richard was still a forge manager. With them was Mary’s father William, now widowed, & a 5 year old adopted son Peter Price Tufft. Peter was the son of Jane Tufft (see 1861 census above) who had died in 1869.
They were still living in Knutton in 1881, now at Silverdale St & Richard was now an ironworks manager. Adopted son Peter was still with them. Sadly Peter died in 1885, aged 19.
In 1891 Mary & Richard were still at Silverdale St & Richard was a forge manager. Living with them was a 20 year old niece, Sarah J Ford, who was domestic servant. Sarah J Ford was in fact the daughter of Mary Ann’s niece, Miranda Stone & her husband Arthur Ford.
Mary died in April-June 1898, aged 75, the death being registered at Wolstanton.
In 1901 widowed Richard was still living at Silverdale St, number19, & described as a retired forge manager. With him was niece Mary A Stone (35), daughter of Mary’s brother Benjamin Stone, who was described as housekeeper.
Richard died on February 8th, 1909, aged 82, at 19 Silverdale St, Wolstanton. Probate was granted on May 4th, 1909 to niece Mary A Stone & nephew William Stone, furniture dealer. Richard’s effects were £314.
It appears that Mary & Richard had no family.
