William Hall was the fourth child of Barbara Wilson & James Hall born September 26th & christened November 15th, 1812 at St James, Shilbottle, Northumberland.
William, a pitman, married Sarah Allison on April 23rd, 1838 at Easington, Co Durham & neither were able to sign their name. Witnesses at the wedding were Frances Hewitson & Edward Hobson (clerk). Sarah was born c1813 in Cumberland, the daughter of Robert Allison, a pitman. There is a christening for Sarah Allison in Dearham, Cumberland on January 19th, 1814, the daughter of Ann & Robert Allison.
In 1841 William & Sarah were living in Colliery Row, South Hetton, Haswell, Co Durham where William was a coal miner. They had a son Richard who was 1 year old.
By 1851 William & Sarah were living at no.104 East Hetton, Coxhoe & William continued to be a coal miner. They had 3 children with them at this time – James (6), Robert (4) & Jane (2), all born in the parish of Kelloe, Co Durham.
William & family emigrated to Australia in 1856 & he became gold miner. The family came to live in Victoria.
Daughter Jane married Frederick Godfrey Gadson in 1866 in Ballarat & they were to have 13 children.
Son Robert married Elizabeth Frances Allsworth in 1869 in Ballarat & they were to have 12 children.
William died on October 2nd, 1874 at Sebastian, Eaglehawk, Shire of Marong, County of Bendigo, Victoria & was buried October 4th at Eaglehawk Cemetery .
Sarah died on February 23rd, 1884 at Eaglehawk, Victoria & was buried February 24th at Eaglehawk Cemetery with William.
