Ann Barnett [b.2.7]

Ann Barnett was the seventh child of Thomas Barnett and Sarah Williams born October 20th, 1791 & christened November 26th, 1791 at Remenham, Berkshire.

Ann married Thomas Dean on May 26th, 1812 at Hambleden, Bucks. Thomas was born c1774 at Hambleden, Bucks, the son of Daniel Dean & Alice Blake.

In 1839 it was reported in the Windsor & Eton Express of  August 17th that a terrible fire had occurred at Huttons Farm, Hambleton where Thomas & Ann & family were living. Much damage was sustained to the farm buildings & stock & part of the dwelling house.  Strangely the agent from the Norwich Union Fire Office with which Thomas was insured, was on the premises discussing settlement for a fire which had occurred a few days previous.  Apparently a servant girl ran into the parlour where the agent was talking to Ann to tell them that the stables were on fire.

In 1841 Thomas & Ann were living at Colstrop Farm, Hambleden where Thomas was farming. They had with them daughter Susan (26), & sons Thomas (24), Arthur (23). Son Lewis (15) was a pupil at Egham House Academy, Surrey.

On February 3rd, 1842 son Thomas married Maria, the youngest daughter of Mr George Aveling of Acton, Middlesex.

In 1851 Ann & Thomas were still living at Colstrop Farm, where Thomas (77) was a farmer of 180 acres employing 11 labourers. Living with them was daughter Susan (37) & they had a nurse & house servant. Son Thomas was farming at Huttons Farm, Hambleden & was to marry Emily Susan Clift on September 5th, 1851 at Watlington, Oxford, his first wife Maria having died in 1848.

Thomas died April 20th, 1851 aged 78, at Colstrop Farm & was buried April 29th, 1851 in Hambleden churchyard.

Ann died on March 29th, 1861 & was buried April 4th, 1861 at Hambleden.  Her will was proved by son Arthur John Deane of Derby & daughter Susan Deane of Colstrop.  Ann’s effects were less than £600.

By the time of the 1861 census daughter Susan was head of the Dean family living at Colstrop, but the farm appears to have been in the hands of Richard Pulienne. With her was brother Lewis Henry (35) & visiting was brother Arthur J, a surveyor of taxes. Son Thomas & his wife Emily were still living at Huttons Farm at this time & had 2 daughters & a son, Louis William Francis Deane. Louis was to marry Harriett Webster [we.12.4] in 1881.
