John Ellis was the first child of John Ellis & Sarah Reynolds christened July 28th, 1803 at Tibshelf, Derbyshire.
John married Elizabeth Watson on September 22nd, 1823 at Pinxton, Derbyshire. Witnesses at the wedding were Joshua & Ann Bingham. Elizabeth was born c1805 at Alfreton, Derbyshire.
In 1841 John & Elizabeth were living in Pinxton where John was a coal miner. With them were children Sarah (15), Mary (10), Hannah (8) & Harriet (5).
By 1851 John & family were living at Greenwich Village, Ripley, Derbyshire. Children at home were Hannah, a worker at candlewick manufacturers, Harriet, Matilda (9), William (4) & Edwin (1). John was still a coal miner.
John & Elizabeth were still living in Greenwich in 1861 & only sons William & Edwin, both coal miners like their father, were still at home.
There is a death for Elizabeth Ellis, aged 64, registered in Belper, Derbyshire in Jan-March 1871.
In 1871 widowed John was living with his daughter Matilda, now married to Richard Burgoyne, a coal miner, & their 1 year old daughter. They were living at Greaves St, Ripley & John was still a coal miner as was son Edwin who was also living there.
John died in 1872, aged 69, his death being registered in Ripley.
