Thomas Freeth was the second child of Samuel Freeth & Frances Grigg born March 11th, 1799 at Harborne & christened September 1st, 1799 at the Presbyterian Church, Oldbury by Halesowen, Shrops.
Thomas married Sarah Hemings on October 20th, 1823 at St Peter's, Harborne, Staffs. Witnesses at the wedding were Hannah & William Roberts. Sarah was born c1805 in Staffs.
At the time of the 1841 census Thomas & Sarah were living at Oldbury Rd, Harborne, Smethwick & must have been near neighbours of his parents who also lived at Oldbury Rd. Thomas was a labourer & the children at home were Fanny (11), Letitia (9), Ann (5), Thomas (3) & Eliza (8 months).
There is a death for Sarah Freeth in April-June 1850 at Kings Norton (which includes Harborne).
In 1851 widower Thomas (51) was living at Horton St, West Bromwich & his occupation was given as labourer. There were a number of children at home – Ann (14), Thomas (12), John (8), Noah (6) & George (3). Daughter Fanny (20) had married William Dangerfield & they were also living in Horton St with their son William. Daughter Letitia (19) was working as a servant for the Tilsley family & living at 19 Summer Row, Birmingham. Daughter Eliza (10) was working as a general servant for the Neale family in Oldbury Rd, Harborne.
By 1861 Thomas had moved to Albert St, West Bromwich, & he was working as a labourer at the glassworks. Children living with him were John, Noah & George, all working at the glassworks, & daughter Eliza. Also listed on the census was a daughter Florence, aged 3, & a son Thomas, aged 1, both born at West Bromwich. These were in fact the children of Eliza as shown in the 1871 census for Albert St, when Eliza is listed with daughter Florence & son Thomas. Eliza was working as a nail sorter.
Thomas died, aged 72, in Albert St, West Bromwich in 1869 & was buried on August 31st, 1869 at Christ Church, West Bromwich.
