Sarah Maria Freeth was the first child of Samuel Freeth & Jane Rebecca Lambert christened April 29th 1855 at Christ Church, West Bromwich, Staffs.
In 1861 Sarah was living at Feeder St, Smethwick with her parents & 2 sisters.
In 1871 the family were still at Smethwick but now living at Causer St. Sarah now had 5 sisters.
Sarah married William Isaac Smith on January 7th, 1877 at the parish church of West Bromwich. William was a glassmaker at the time of the wedding. Witnesses at the wedding were David Smith & Sarah Hufton. William was born c1852 at Harborne, Staffs, the son of Ann & Edward Smith, a glass maker.

In 1881 Sarah & William were living with William’s parents at 284 Oldbury Rd, Smethwick, Harborne. William was a glass maker & he & Sarah had 2 children – Edward (2) & Ann (3 months).
By 1891 they had moved to 9 Albert St, Smethwick, Harborne & William was now a coal dealer & greengrocer. Only daughter Ann was with them, as son Edward was visiting his widowed grandmother Ann at 245 Oldbury Rd, Smethwick where she was a general dealer.
In 1901 Sarah & William were living at 261 Oldbury Rd, Smethwick & William was described as a general labourer. Son Edward was still at home & worked as a clerk. Daughter Ann(ie) had married Harold Smith, a clerk, in 1900 & was living with her parents with their unnamed son under 1 year of age.
Sarah & William were still at 261 Oldbury Rd, in 1911 & William was now a fitter’s labourer at the carriage works. Daughter Annie was still living with them & working as a shop assistant in a confectionery shop & her son William Stanley, aged 10, was with her. It was noted on the census that Sarah had had 5 children, only 2 of whom were still alive.
By 1939 daughter Annie was living at The Poplars, Seisdon Rd, Seisdon, Staffs & she was a fish restaurant proprietress. With her was son William, a fish restaurant manager.
