Samuel William Freeth was the tenth child of Samuel Freeth & Jane Rebecca Lambert born May 13th, 1876 at West Bromwich, Staffs.
In 1881 Samuel was living at 4 Birmingham Rd, Oldbury where his father was a glass maker. Samuel had 6 older sisters living at home.
In 1891 Samuel was still living at home at Birmingham St, now #8, along with 5 sisters.
In 1901 Samuel was with his widowed mother at 71 High St, Smethwick. Both he & his mother were pork butchers, his mother being the employer. His sister Eliza Jane was also there & was an assistant pork butcher.
Samuel married Edith Elizabeth Watts on July 8th, 1906 at Holy Trinity Church, Birchfield, Staffs. Witnesses at the wedding were George Holden & Alice Watts. Edith was born February 3rd, 1877 at Aston, Birmingham, the daughter of Mary A & Thomas Watts, a baker & confectioner.
In 1911 Samuel & Edith were living at 77 Halford St, Smethwick where Samuel was a pork butcher & Edith was assisting in the business. They had a domestic servant & an assistant in the business living with them.
The 1939 register shows Samuel as a retired pork butcher living with Edith at 197 Park Rd, Smethwick.
Samuel died on September 27th, 1941 at 197 Park Rd, Bearwood, Smethwick. Probate was granted on November 24th to widow Edith & his effects were £6,613.1s.5d.
Edith, of 70 Upper St Mary’s Rd, Bearwood, Smethwick, died, aged 80, on April 19th, 1957. Probate was granted on July 23rd, 1957 to Wallace Hugo DeGrey, company director, Frank DeGrey of no occupation & Harry Backhouse, insurance official. Her effects were £8,557.3s.10d.
