Fanny Freeth [fh.4.6.1.7.1.8]

Fanny Freeth was the eighth child of Samuel Freeth & Jane Rebecca Lambert born January 22nd, 1872 at Smethwick, Staffs.

In 1881 Fanny was living at 4 Birmingham Rd, Oldbury where Fanny’s father was a glass maker. Fanny had 5 sisters & a brother at home.

In 1891 Fanny was still living at home at Birmingham St, now #8, along with 4 sisters & her brother.

Fanny married Alfred Screen on December 5th, 1897, at St Cuthbert’s, Winson Green, Birmingham.  Witnesses at the wedding were John Porter & Mary Screen. Alfred was born Jan-March 1869 at Rowley Regis, Staffs, the son of Hannah & Thomas Screen, a boiler manufacturer.

In 1901 Fanny & Alfred were living at 14 Bull St, West Bromwich where Alfred was a pork butcher, shop keeper. They had an 18 year old domestic servant, Harriet Isherwood.

By 1911 Fanny & Alfred were living at 24 Bull St where Fanny was working in the pork business from home.  Her husband Alfred had become a boiler maker.  They now had 3 children – Ethel (9), Alfred (5) & Harold (9 months).  They also had a domestic servant.

In 1924 daughter Ethel married Arthur Arnold Perry at West Bromwich.

Alfred of Glendale, 47 Herbert St, West Bromwich died at 184 Hagley Rd, Edgbaston, Birmingham on February 25th, 1936.  Probate was granted to son Harold, an electrician, & son-in-law Arthur Arnold Perry (Ethel’s husband), a departmental head clerk.  His effects amounted to £9699.17s.5d.

Widowed Fanny was living at 47 Herbert St, West Bromwich at the time of the 1939 register. Son Harold, an electrician, was living with her & they had a general servant, Annie Dowd. Daughter Ethel & her husband Arthur Perry & family were living at 19 Roebuck Lane, West Bromwich in 1939 & Arthur was a printer’s order clerk.

Son Harold married Annie Mabel Creed in 1942 at West Bromwich.

Fanny died on November 13th, 1951, aged 79, at 19 Roebuck Lane, West Bromwich.  Probate was granted on January 2nd, 1952 to son Harold, engineers surveyor, & son-in-law Arthur Arnold Perry, chief section clerk.  Her effects were £532.12s.5d.
