Baine’s Directory of 1823 lists Lister & Merryweather as curriers of Yarm.  A notice in the Durham Chronicle of April 30th 1825 stated that the partnership of Wm. Merryweather & John Lister of Yarm, curriers & leather cutters was dissolved. Subsequently the dwelling house & associated workshop, warehouse etc in the Market Place, Yarm were advertised to let.

After spending some time in Yarm where their son John & daughter Mary Ann (Mariann) were born the family moved west to live in Lancashire.

In 1851 John & Ann were lodging at 176 Spring Gardens, Great Bolton, Lancashire.  John was a currier.

John & Ann were living at 1 Taylor  Fold, Great Bolton in 1861 & John was described as a leather currier.  Living with them was daughter Mary Ann now married to Robert Holden, a carter, & their children William Lister (4) & Robert (7 months).

John, aged 60, died on April 8th, 1861 at 1 Taylor Fold, Great Bolton & was buried at Tonge Cemetery, St Peter’s, Bolton

Widowed Ann was living with daughter Mary Ann & husband Robert Holden & family in 1871.  They were living at 10 Hanover St, Great Bolton.
