William Lister was the fourth child of Thomas Lister & Hannah Herring christened May 21st, 1858 at Ormesby, Yorks.
In 1861 William & his parents & family were living at Ormesby, Yorks.
He was still at home in 1871 & working as an assistant carter to his father. They were living at High St, Ormesby.
At the time of the 1881 census William (Lester in census) was working as a labourer at the steelworks. He was lodging with Thomas Crooks & family at Spencer St, Linthorpe.
In 1891 William was living at Hemingbrough, Yorks & working as a wood leader (carter). He was lodging with Tom Parker, a publican & farmer.
