John George Lister [li.7.7]

John George Lister was the seventh child of Thomas Lister & Hannah Herring christened February 9th,1865 at Ormesby, Yorks.

In 1871 John was living with his parents & family at High St, Ormesby.

At the time of the 1881 census John was living with his older brother Richard, who was a farmer of 5 acres at Ormesby. Also with them was his younger brother Frederick.

John was still living in Ormesby in 1891, & was a cowkeeper. He had a 62 year housekeeper Elizabeth Jackson.

At the time of the 1901 census John was living with his brother Frederick. Both were unmarried & living together at Ormesby where John was a contractor & Frederick was described as a navvy. They had a 49 year old domestic house keeper Jane Lambert.

In 1911 John was still living in Ormesby & described as a carting contractor.  Listed on the census with him were 52 year old widow Jane Lambert, Joseph Robert Edward Medd (9) & a general labourer Thomas Percival Stephenson (25). 

John died on November 27th, 1916 at Old Ormesby & was buried on November 30th at St Cuthbert’s, Ormesby.  Probate was granted in London on February 2nd, 1917 to Albert Edward Forbes, solicitor. His effects were £984.1s.3d.
