Henrietta Lister [li.8.4]

Henrietta Lister was the fourth child of Richard Wheatley Pattison Lister & Mary Ann Knaggs christened November 13th, 1870 at Wilton By Redcar, Yorks.

At the time of the 1871 census Henrietta was living with her parents & family at East St, Lazenby & she was still living at home in 1881, now at Knaggs St, Lazenby.

Henrietta married Charles William Stableforth on August 21 st , 1890, at St Cuthbert, Wilton, Yorks. Witnesses at the wedding were Mary Jane Stableforth & Frederick Stableforth.  Charles was the son of Fanny Robinson & Charles Stableforth, a platelayer, born August 1863 at Skirbeck Quarter & christened January 8th, 1865 at Skirbeck, Boston, Lincolnshire.

In 1891 Henrietta & Charles were living at High St, Lazenby, next door to Phoebe Lister, widow of Henrietta’s cousin Thomas Lister [li.5.2]. Charles was a platelayer in the ironstone mine & they had a son Richard C, aged 5 months.

By 1901 Charles had become a licensed victualler & he & Henrietta were living at 1 Archer St, Darlington. At home was son Richard & another son Alfred L (4). Visiting them was Henrietta’s brother Richard Lister (25) who was a commission agent (sporting), listed as married.

Charles aged 47, was buried on February 24th, 1911, at St Cuthbert’s, Wilton, Guisbrough.

In the census of 1911widowed Henrietta was still living at 1 Archer St & was the innkeeper at the Britannia Inn. Her son Richard was working at the Inn. Son Alfred was also still at home & working as an apprentice iron & steel moulder. Both sons were tragically killed in WW1. Richard served as a private in the 27 th Battalion (Tyneside Irish) of the Northumberland Fusiliers & at the time of his death Henrietta was living at 26 Garden St, Darlington. Alfred served as a driver in the Royal Horse Artillery & the Royal Field Artillery.

li.8.4.1 Richard Charles Stableforth born Jan-March 1891 at Lazenby; died August 28th, 1917 in France/Flanders & buried in Tincourt New British Cemetery, France

li.8.4.2 Daisy Stableforth born Jan-March 1894 at Lazenby; buried March 6th, 1894 at St Cuthbert’s, Wilton

li.8.4.3 Alfred Lister Stableforth born Oct-December 1896 at Lazenby; died October 6th, 1918 in West Flanders, Belgium & buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinge, Arrondissement Ieper

Henrietta married again in Jan-March 1914 at Darlington.  Her second husband was John Lawson. Henrietta died on February 2nd, 1934 at Darlington, aged 65. She was buried in Darlington West Cemetery alongside husband John who died on December 1st, 1937, aged 86.
