John Pallister [p.1.2.4.1.3]

John Pallister was the third child Thomas Pallister & Sarah Dodds christened April 22nd, 1822 at Auckland St Andrew.

In 1841 John was still living at home with his parents at Windlestone, Co Durham where his father was a gamekeeper.  John was working as a joiner.

John married Mary French on August 2nd, 1846 at Auckland.  Mary was christened April 6th, 1817 in Church Merrington, Co Durham, the daughter of Alice & James French.

At the time of the christenings of their children John gave his occupation as a joiner living in Middlesbrough.

In 1851 John & wife Mary were living at Robert St, Middlesbrough & John was now working as millwright.  They had 2 sons – William (2) & Thomas (10 months).

John & Mary were still living in Robert St, Middlesbrough in 1861 & John was now working as a pattern maker.  As well as the 2 sons they now had a daughter Alice (9).

In 1871 John was again working as a millwright & the family were living at Hill St?, Middlesbrough.  Son William was working as a joiner & Thomas was a clerk.  Daughter Alice was still at home.

John & Mary were still at Hill St in 1881 & all the children had left home.  John was described as a pattern maker.  Daughter Alice had married William Metcalfe in Jan-March 1872 & son Thomas had married Elizabeth Greener on August 24th, 1875 at St John's, Middlesbrough.

John died on June 1st, 1888 at Hill St. & was buried on June 3rd, 1888 at New Linthorpe Cemetery, Middlesbrough. His will was proved by son Thomas, an accountant of 22 Borough Rd West, Middlesbrough & John’s estate was £29.18s.

In 1891 widowed Mary was living with widowed daughter Alice Metcalfe & her children John P (18), Elizabeth (16) & Alice (11).  Alice was working as a dressmaker & they were living at Hill St, Middlesbrough.

Mary, aged 74, died later in 1891 & was buried on October 23rd, 1891 at New Linthorpe Cemetery, Middlesbrough. 

Widowed daughter Alice married again on April 29th, 1893 in Middlesbrough.  Her second husband, Thomas Dodsworth, a 44 year old blacksmith, was also widowed.  By 1901 Alice & Thomas were living at Chirton, Tynemouth, Northumberland with Alice’s daughter also called Alice.

p.1.2.4.1.3.4  John Pallister born July-September 1854 in Middlesbrough; buried February 5th, 1855 at  Linthorpe Cemetery, Middlesbrough
p.1.2.4.1.3.5  James Pallister born Oct-December 1855 & christened January 10th, 1856 at St Hilda’s, Middlesbrough; buried April 4th, 1858 at Linthorpe Cemetery, Middlesbrough
