Thomas Pallister was the fourth child of Thomas Pallister & Christiana Stabler born at Claypath, Durham & christened May 4th, 1834, at St Nicholas, Durham City, Co Durham.
Thomas & his parents were living at Rushyford, Windlestone in 1841 along with 2 older brothers, 1 younger brother & a sister. Charles’s father was an itinerant blacksmith & as evidenced by the birthplace of the children.
Thomas was still living at home in 1851, now in the village of Woodham, Co Durham. He was working as a joiner’s apprentice.
Thomas married Frances Iveson on April 27th, 1856 at St Nicholas, Durham City. Frances was born in Sadler St, Durham & christened May 20th, 1836 at St Nicholas, Durham City, the daughter of Ann & Nicholson Iveson, a wool comber.
Thomas & Frances were living at Kielder, Wellhaugh, Northumberland in 1861 & Thomas was a grocer’s assistant. They had 2 children, Ann (3) & Frances (1) as well as 2 boarders, both grocer’s assistants.
By 1871 the family had returned to Co Durham & were living at 53 Ann St, Gateshead. Thomas was now working as a truck builder for the railway. As well as Ann & Frances they now had another daughter, Christiana aged 3, & 2 sons – James W (9) & Nicholas (1).
Frances, aged 41, died in April-June 1875 soon after the birth of a son Frederick, her death being registered at South Shields.

In Oct-December 1875 Thomas married again. His second wife was Ellenor Iveson, the widow of William Nicholson Iveson who had died in 1860. Ellenor was christened Ellenor Clark on June 16th, 1833 at St Oswald’s Shincliffe, Durham (had son Thomas Nicholson Iveson in 1858 at Gateshead), the daughter of Jane & Thomas Clark, a parish sexton.
In 1881 Thomas & Eleanor were living at 191 Eldon St, Westoe, South Shields & Thomas was described as a truck inspector (for the railway). With them were Thomas’s children Nicholson aged 11 & a daughter Jane E (8).
The family had moved to 5 Green Lane Cottages, Harton, South Shields by 1891 & Thomas was now a wagon wright. Nicholson was still at home & working as a clerk & Jane worked as a domestic servant (cook).
In 1901 Thomas & Eleanor were living on their own at 2 Ebor St, Simonside, Harton. Thomas was still working as a wagon wright.
