William Pallister [p.1.6.3.1.1.7.2]

William Pallister was the second child of John McCree Pallister & Barbara Hall born at 14 Gibson Terr, Ryhope & christened October 1st, 1876 at St Paul’s, Ryhope.

In 1881 William was at home with the family at 14 Gibson Terrace, Ryhope. William had 2 brothers, John & Ralph & a sister Ellen (Helen in census) aged 5 months.

William was still living at home in 1891 at Gibson Terr & was working as a coal miner. He now had 3 brothers & 3 sisters at home.

In 1901 William had left the colliery & was now working as a metal cleaner at the shipyard in Sunderland. He was one of 2 boarders with a 71 year old widow Isabella Grundy at 15 Garden Place, North BishopWearmouth, Sunderland.

William, described as a foundry casting cleaner, had returned to Ryhope by 1911 & was living with his half-sister Annie Wright, the illegitimate daughter of Barbara Hall [ha.8.1]. Annie & her husband James Wright, a coal miner putter were living at 34 Burdon St, Ryhope with their 5 children & 2 older children from Annie's first marriage to Robert Trusty.

A newspaper article in the Durham Chronicle of August 19th, 1927 reported that William had just left Sunderland Royal Infirmary in the morning after being treated for an internal complaint & in the afternoon of the same day he was knocked down & run over by a motor-wagon on Chester Rd.  He sustained serious injuries & was readmitted to the Infirmary. At this time he was still living at 34 Burdon St, Ryhope.

William died May 7th, 1930, aged 53, his death being registered at Sunderland.
