Dorothy Pallister was the first child of William Pallister & Margaret Thompson christened June 1st 1851 at Lanchester, Co Durham.
The family were living at Blackhill, Benfieldside, Co Durham in 1861 & Dorothy’s father William was described as a mason & stone cutter. She had a younger brother, John.
In April-June 1869 Dorothy gave birth to a baby girl named Clara.

Dorothy was still living at home with her parents in 1871, now Ormsby Hill, Lanchester, and with her was her 1 year old daughter Clara.
Dorothy married William Forrest Thain on November 16th, 1872 at Eglingham, Northumberland. William was born c1848 at Chillingham, Northumberland, the son of Margaret Forrest & Archbold Thain, a miller.
In 1881 Dorothy & William were living at East Bolton, Alnwick, Northumberland where William was a domestic servant & butler to Thomas S Clarke, a barrister & Justice of the Peace. They had 4 children at this time – William A (8), Margaret P (6), Albert E (4) & Elizabeth T (2). Also with them was Dorothy’s daughter Clara, a scholar.
The family were still living in Bolton in 1891 & William was now working as a gardener. At home were daughters Margaret & Elizabeth, & new additions John Thomas (9) & Walter F (6).
Dorothy & William were living at Hotspur Place, Alnwick in 1901 & William was described as a gardener (not domestic). Daughter Elizabeth was still at home & sons John, a journeyman blacksmith, & Walter, a plumber’s apprentice. There was a 3 year old granddaughter, Ethel, with them as well as 3 boarders.
By 1911 William was employed as church caretaker & he & Dorothy were living at Pottergate, Alnwick. With them was granddaughter Ethel, a scholar.
Dorothy died at The School House, High Heworth, Gateshead, Co Durham in July-September 1929.
William died in Jan-March 1934 at Gateshead, Co Durham.
