Robert George Pallister was the son of Mary Ann Pallister christened March 12th, 1841 at Lanchester, Co Durham.
At the time of the 1841 census Robert was 3 months old & living with his mother Mary Ann & grandparents Sarah & John Pallister at Hornsby Hill, Lanchester. His mother Mary Ann married William Proud in 1847 but Robert does not appear with them on any census.
In 1861 Robert was living at White House, Greencroft, Lanchester & working as a carter for farmer Edward Burdes?
Robert married Mary Judson on November 24th, 1863, at the United Methodist Free Church, Stockton. At the time of the wedding Mary was of Stockton & Robert was of Bishop Middleham. Mary was born at South Hetton & christened October 13th, 1844 at Easington, the daughter of Margaret & Samuel Judson, a carrier. Mary was living at home in Coxhoe, Co Durham in 1861 & working as a dressmaker.
At the time of the 1871 census Robert & Mary were at Clarence Row, Coxhoe, with Mary’s brother Siddle Judson, a railway engine driver, & her widowed mother Margaret. Robert was a railway stoker & he & Mary had a 10 month old daughter Annie Louisa. Tragically they had had 5 children since their marriage but all except Annie Louisa had died in infancy.
Mary died in April-June 1880, aged 36, the death being registered at Auckland (includes Byers Green).

In 1881 Robert was living at Todhills, Byers Green, Co Durham & was a locomotive engine driver. Living with him was his mother-in-law Margaret Judson (59) & 3 children – Annie L, Hannah G (5) & Ada Sarah (2).
Robert remarried in Jan-March 1884 at Stockton. His second wife was Mary Lowery, born May 13th, 1854 at Middle Rainton, Co Durham, the daughter of Mary & John Lowery.
Daughter Annie Louisa married John Thomas Ridley, a joiner, in Oct-December 1889. Sadly John died in 1901 & Annie remarried in 1903. Her second husband was Henry Pringle, a bricklayer.
In 1891 Robert & Mary were living at Ferryhill & Robert was described as an engine driver. With them were Robert’s children from his first marriage – Hannah & Ada - & he & Mary now had a 2 year old daughter Frances Mary.
Daughter Hannah Gertrude married John Arthur Larmour, a machinist at the marine engine works, in Oct-December 1897.
Robert & Mary were still living at Ferryhill in 1901 & he was still an engine driver for N.E.R. Daughters Ada, a dressmaker with her own account, & Frances were still at home.
Daughter Ada married Benjamin Johnson, a colliery blacksmith, in Jan-March 1904.
Robert died, aged 66, on July 25th, 1907 at Ferryhill Station.
Daughter Frances married John Robert Taylor, a coal miner, in June 1908.
In 1911 widowed Mary was housekeeper for widow Charles Garraway, a traction engine driver, & his daughter Margaret Isabella at Ross Terrace, Ferryhill.
There is a death for Mary Pallister, aged 69, registered in Sedgefield in Oct-December 1922.
