Hannah Pallister [p.1.6.5.4]

Hannah Pallister was the fourth child of John Pallister & Sarah Urpeth born June 3rd, 1800 at Greencroft & christened August 10th, 1800 at Lanchester.

Hannah was mentioned in her father's will which was written in 1828. He directed that Hannah should receive half of his household goods upon her marriage & she should have his 8 day clock upon the death of her mother. She should also receive £300 on her mother's death.

Hannah married Jonathan Wall on November 5th, 1837 at All Saints, Lanchester. Both were of full age at the time of marriage & he was a bachelor of Lanchester & Hannah was living at Ornsby Hill. No father's names were entered on the marriage certificate, but witnesses were Thomas Wall, S.J. Pallister, S.A. Bold (probably Hannah's sister Sarah who had married George Bold), John Pallister (probably Hannah's brother as her father died in 1831) & John Robinson (church warden). Jonathan was christened February 21st, 1813 at Lanchester, the son of Jane Robinson & Mark Wall.

Hannah died on February 12th, 1838, aged 37 & was buried alongside her father at All Saints, Lanchester.

Joanathan remarried in April-June 1840, his new wife being Mary Wheatley, who was born c1807 in Ramshope, Northumberland. In 1841 Jonathan & Mary were living in Lanchester with a 5 month old daughter Sarah.

Jonathan was a butcher & grocer by trade & he & Mary continued to live at Lanchester until at least 1871. In addition to daughter Sarah, they had a son Mark in 1847. In 1861 Mark was not at home at the time of the census but was a scholar at a private boarding school in Houghton-le-Spring. By 1871 Mark had become an ironworks clerk.

The family could not be found in the 1881 census but Mary died in April-June 1889, aged 82.

Jonathan died the following year on May 20th, 1890 at Lanchester, aged 77.  His will was proved on June 13th, 1890 by daughter Sarah, spinster, & Edward Armorer Hedley of Osborne Villas, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, a soap manufacturer, the surviving executors.  His personal estate was £5,035.0s.6d.

The children of Jonathan Wall & Mary Wheatley were:

Sarah Wall christened January 30th, 1841 at Lanchester

Mark Wall christened December 12th, 1847 at Lanchester
