William Harvey Wall was the third child of Edward Wall & Mabel Wale born May 16th, 1847 at Moore St, West Bromwich & christened June 9th, 1847.
In 1851 he was at home at Old End, West Bromwich.
William was still living at home in 1871 with his widowed father, brothers & sister at Newhall St, West Bromwich. William worked as a blacksmith striker.
He married Rebecca Crust on February 25th, 1879 at the Register Office, Goole, Yorkshire. Rebecca was born in Keadby, (south of Goole) & christened March 31st, 1839 at Althorpe, Lincoln, the daughter of Ann Jackson & John Foster Crust, a brick maker.
In 1881 William & Rebecca (Walle in census) were living at Vermuyden Terr, Hook, nr Goole, Yorks with Rebecca’s mother Ann Crust, a 74 year old widow from Roxby, Lincs. William was a labourer & he & Rebecca had a 1 year old daughter Mabel Rebecca. Also living with them was Rebecca’s sister, Sarah Ann Sailes who was a shipwright’s wife & her children – Rachel Ann (10) & John George (6). Sarah’s husband was not present at the time of the census. Later that year William & Rebecca had another daughter, Emma Ann, who was born on July 12th.
Rebecca died on December 23rd, 1881 at 12 Vermuyden Terrace, Hook. On the death certificate her age was given as 39 years and cause of death “curvature of spine, chronic bronchitis and congestion of lungs”. The informant was Joseph Crust, Rebecca’s brother.
William was not found in the 1891 census, but his daughter Mabel Rebecca had been ‘adopted’ by Isaac Timmins, a blacksmith, & his wife Mabel Elizabeth – William’s younger sister. They were living at 30 Grove St, St Peter, Derby & Isaac (29) & Mabel (36) had 3 children of their own – Winifred (4), Isaac E (2) & Thomas H (11? months).
