Martha Winder was the third child of Edmund Winder & Elizabeth Style born November 6th, 1788 at Burnham, christened December 4th, 1788 at St Peter's Burnham.
Martha married Thomas Allen on May 2nd, 1833 at St Martin in the Fields, Westminster. Thomas was christened December 9th, 1775 at St Mary’s, Henley-on-Thames, Oxon, the son of Sarah & John Allen.
In 1841 Martha & Thomas were living at East Burnham Common. Thomas was described as ‘independent’ & Martha was a schoolmistress.
In 1851 Thomas & Martha were living at East Burnham Common School House. Thomas (76) was a gardener & Martha was still a school mistress. Visiting them was niece Charlotte Winder (16), the youngest daughter of Martha’s brother William Winder.
Martha, aged 62, died on March 3rd 1852 at Burnham Beeches & was buried March 9th, 1852 at Burnham.
There is a burial of Thomas Allen, aged 77, on June 2nd, 1852 at St Mary’s, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. A notice in the Oxford Journal of June 5th, 1852 stated that Thomas Allen, formerly grocer of Henley-on-Thames, died at his sister’s residence at Hart St, Henley. The 1851 census of Henley shows Thomas’ sisters, Frances & Ann Allen living together at Hart St.
