Charles Ormond Winder was the child of Robert William Winder & Maria Augusta Wetherilt born Oct-December 1848 at Church St, Edmonton & christened January 3rd, 1849 at All Saints, Edmonton, Middlesex.
In 1851 Charles was living with his parents at 2 High Path, Edmonton.
In 1861 Charles was still living at home, now 1 Willshire Place, St Johns Hackney. His father Robert was a fly proprieter.
By 1871 Charles’s father Robert had become a licensed victualler at the Haverstock Arms, Hampstead. Charles was still at home.
Charles married Fanny Elizabeth Richardson on June 13th, 1872 at St Mary’s, Hornsey, Edmonton. Charles was a clerk at the time of the wedding & he gave his address as Hornsey & Fanny was of Tottenham. Witnesses at the wedding were Edward Richardson & Mary Baldwin Andrews. Fanny was christened March 16th, 1851 at Edmonton, Middlesex, the daughter of Fanny & William Richardson, a fly proprieter & corn dealer.
The following year both his parents died. At the time of death of his father in January 1873 Charles & Fanny were living at the ‘Noah's Ark' public house, 313 Oxford St, Middlesex. He administered his father's will.
In 1881 Charles was a wine merchant & he & Fanny were living at (the Haverstock Tavern) Haverstock Hill, Hampstead with their 5 year old son Charles W.
Charles was recorded in the 1882 Overseer Returns for London as living at 20 Boston Street, Regent’s Park & being the occupier of stabling & rooms at 1 and 2 Devonshire Mews, St John, Hampstead. He was the publican of the Boston Arms Tavern.
Fanny died on November 30th, 1889, aged 39, her death being registered in Marylebone, London.
By 1891 widowed Charles was living with his son Charles at Albert St, Pancras, London. He was still a wine merchant.
Charles died on February 27 th , 1895 at Old White Horse tavern, Peckham, Rye, Surrey, aged 47.
He died intestate & letters of administration were granted to Caroline Buchanan, his aunt, of 36 Rochester Rd, Camden Town. She was elected guardian of Charles' children since their grandmother, Fanny Richardson, renounced guardianship. The estate of Charles (£2,170-11s-8d) was to be administered by Caroline until one of the children became 21. In 1899 administration of Charles’ estate was granted to son Charles William & the effects were now £1,567.17s.10d.
In 1901 daughter Alice was working as an assistant in a baker’s shop & was living at 18 East Hill, Wandsworth. She was living with Elizabeth Barnard (19) who was also a baker’s assistant. Also in 1901 son Charles, a licensed victualler, was granted the licence of the Carpenters Arms, Seymour Place.
Alice married Ernest Ough in April-June 1907 at Lambeth & in 1911 they were living at 64 Ilford Land, Ilford, Essex, where Ernest was a printer & stationer. They had 2 children by this time – Reginald E (1) & Maud A (2 months).
