William Lister was the fifth child of William Lister & Elisabeth Metcalf christened March 22nd, 1752 at Welbury, N. Yorkshire.
William of Welbury married Anne Law of Appleton Wiske, on December 4th, 1792 at Welbury. N. Yorks. Witnesses at the wedding were Robert Lister & William Mankin. Anne was christened May 15th, 1768 at Appleton Wiske, the daughter of Ann Hird & John Law.
Daughter Elizabeth married William Merryweather, a shipowner, in October 1813 at Welbury. Son William married Maria Smith of Deighton in September 1817 at Northallerton.
William died aged 66 & was buried on November 28th, 1818 at St Leonard’s, Welbury.
Daughter Jane married Edward Davison in November 1830 at Welbury & in 1841 she & her 2 daughters were living with brother William at the Farm House, Welbury. Husband Edward was in Feethams, Darlington working as a man servant & with him was son William Davison aged 9.
Daughter Mary married John Mothersdale, a farmer, in September 1831 at Welbury.
In 1841 widowed Anne was living with son Robert at the Farm House, Welbury & Robert was a farmer. With them was Mary Lister, aged 15, who was an agricultural labourer & James Car (65). Living nearby in Welbury was son William, also a farmer, & his wife Maria & family.
Anne was still living with son Robert in 1851 in Welbury where he was a farmer of 170 acres. James Carr was still with them & 3 servants.
Anne, aged 86, died in 1853 & was buried on September 8th at St Leonard’s,Welbury.
After his mother’s death son Robert decided to marry. He married Ellen Carlton (b 1833) in November 1857 at Yarm & in 1861 he was farming in Ormesby, N. Yorks. By 1871 Robert had left farming & he & Ellen were living at the Falcon Inn, Hilton, Stokesley & he was described as a landowner.

Jane Lister christened August 25th, 1805 at Welbury; died at Great Ayton & buried October 28th, 1889 at St Leonard’s Welbury
Mary Lister christened July 17th, 1808 at Welbury; died October 24th, 1863 & buried October 27th at Christ Church, Coatham, Redcar
