There is a marriage for Thomas Wall & Mary Barker on May 18th, 1835 at St Mary’s, Handsworth, Staffs.  Witnesses at the wedding were Edward & Mary Wall.  However, the GRO birth registers for Thomas’ children indicate that the mother’s maiden name was He(m)ings.  No marriage has been found for Thomas Wall & Mary Hemmings.  Mary was born c1810 in Birmingham & it is possible to conjecture that she had been married previously.

On Christmas day 1852 daughter Eliza married John Parker, a shingler of iron, at St Martin, Tipton, Staffs.

In 1861 Thomas & Mary were living at Cross St, Wednesbury. At home were Thomas, now a forgeman, George, also a forgeman, Josiah, a forgelad & a new son Edwin, aged 9. They also had a 13 year old house servant.

At the time of 1871 census Thomas & Mary were still living at Cross St, at no. 55, & Thomas was still a shingler at the ironworks. Son Edwin was the only child at home working as an iron roller. Nearby at no. 57 Cross St. was son Josiah Wall, a shingler at the ironworks, & his wife Sarah Ann, born Glasgow, Scotland c1849.

Thomas died on March 7th, 1872, aged 64, his death being registered at West Bromwich.  Administration of his will was granted to son George Edward Wall of 14 Hobbins St, Wednesbury, forgeman.  His estate was £41.

In 1881 widowed Mary (69) was still living at 55 Cross St & was noted as ‘property owner’. Living with her was daughter Margaret & her husband Joseph Thomas Smith, a striker, & their children Thomas Joseph (20), Sarah (12), Joseph (10) & Arthur (3).
